Introducing Structure speed mode for cloud

Structure on cloud now gives users a choice of two separate starting modes to create structures in their Jira cloud instance: Speed mode and power mode.

No one knows the importance of time more than Tempo. Getting our users up and running with our tools as fast and efficiently as possible is vital and, while Structure was simple enough for the Jira admins of the world, we felt there was more we could do to help show the value of structure to more Jira users within an organization.

In the spirit of which this new feature was developed, let's cut to the chase. With speed mode in Structure PPM, users can get up and running quicker with three simple steps:

1. Define scope — choose which project or projects you want to manage

2. Choose hierarchy settings — select how you want your data to be filtered and sorted

3. Give your structure a name and description

That’s it. No code, no advanced settings, no fuss. Simplifying how users get started with Structure PPM with this onboarding accelerator provides a simple way to evaluate products and see the benefits. The learning curve is flattened, structures are created faster, and users adopt the tool faster. You now have a great starting point to view, manage, and edit your Jira issues in one screen while viewing only the data that’s pertinent to your day to day operations.

Teams that love Jira but get frustrated by their data being disorganized often turn to Structure to bring order to the chaos. We recently interviewed Dave Liao, a well-known community leader and sysadmin in the Atlassian ecosystem, to get his take on why teams love Structure PPM.

Sounds simple — how does it work?

When creating a new structure, users will be met with two options: Speed mode or power mode. Power mode is exactly the same as before (the same Structure PPM you know and love). Let’s explore how speed mode works. Rather than using generators to add and organize Jira issues, speed mode uses a step-by-step wizard to create structures. It’s a simpler, faster way to get going in the app. The logic is different between the two modes:

• Power mode (Structure PPM current state) starts with one level, and the user inserts issues. Then the system builds upon that — extending, adding subtasks, etc, via generators.

  > Generators are responsible for the scope and hierarchy

• Speed mode is a departure from this logic — it splits scope and hierarchy. First you define the scope (choosing the projects), and then you define the hierarchy.

You’re welcome too, power mode users

With great power comes great responsibility. And the responsibility to set up new structures, and any other administrative duties, was often the role of the Jira or sysadmin. But no longer. Structure PPM is the center of everything that happens in a production environment. By empowering users to set up and manage their projects, this reduces admin requests. With this new update, even more users can benefit.
