In our previous posts, we've covered the introduction of the new Tempo Cloud and its new feature — My Work. This week, let's take a look at the reporting feature in Tempo's Jira time tracking software.
Our cloud version of Tempo has gone through a complete makeover lately. With this new feature, the time reports are now more powerful than ever and offer more customization for users.
Since the release of the new time reports, we’ve seen teams reporting on time spent in details. For instance:
- Customer projects
- Different teams
- Capex and Opex accounts
- Internal issues
- Different users, and
- JIRA filters (JQL) which produces all your favorite JIRA fields
Required permission for full functioning of the reports: View All Worklogs
The 'View All Worklogs' permission allows user to see all worklogs in a project. Grant this permission to managers or team leads who need to view all worklogs for their team. Grant permission separately for each project.
Access custom report from the main menu bar, select Tempo > Reports. Or click on the ‘Reports’ icon on the Tempo Sidebar on the left. You will be presented with report overview page with quick access to six predefined report templates, in addition to the custom report. We chose sensible default values for this first version of the reports overview page, which will be further enhanced in future releases.
Select a range of dates to view and filter and group your data as you see fit
To start with a custom report, select dates by highlighting a period of time from the calendar picker, or type a specific range. You can also select one of the existing timesheet periods to view.
Be sure to try the new reports in Tempo for #JIRA and experience the powerful new functionality at your fingertips
Use the ‘Filter by setting’ to control which worklogs are displayed. The ‘Group by setting’ pivots the results of your report into more detail.
Put the finishing touches on time reports
Choose to display the report in Grid or List view by toggling the button on the right, giving you more display options and additional issue/worklog information. The total hours logged will always be displayed on your top right. When you have all the information you need, you can export your report.
If Tempo Planner is enabled, you can report on plans by toggling between worklogs and plans next to the calendar picker.
What do you want to report on?
Over the past few months, we’ve gotten great feedback on ways we can improve the reports. What are you trying to achieve?
Here are a few examples of time reports you can achieve with Tempo:
- Report on overtime as a work attribute and filter by individual users
- Report on a longer custom period
- Report on your favorite JIRA filter - for instance issue types and status, labels, and components
- Report on plans by teams or users and see their availability in advance (if Tempo Planner is enabled)
- Report on how much time has been logged for a customer or customer accounts
- Report on multiple projects, teams, issues, accounts, and users
