The Tempo Workload Schemes in Tempo Planner for JIRA provide a way to group users based on shared work requirements. The Tempo Holiday Schemes provide a way to group Tempo Planner users based on shared holidays. Only users with the Tempo Administrator Permission are able to manage Workload and Holiday schemes.
The issue of distributed teams is what may be stopping some from adopting Agile methodologies. It is true that, traditionally, agile emphasizes face-to-face communication but for larger software development companies, distributed teams are increasingly becoming a fact of life. Tempo and Atlassian products provide ways to enable effective team collaboration, tracking, and planning whether they’re colocated or distributed. And it’s not just the larger enterprises which may benefit, as smaller teams increasingly rely on a flexible work force or contractors.
Time difference and cultural differences are key issues when working with distributed teams. We at Tempo can’t do much to alleviate the time difference but we can do is help you account for differences in holidays and work schedules with the Tempo workload and holiday schemes.
Workload Schemes
Workload schemes come in handy as team members may be working different work schedules, whether it’s because they’re part-time employees, working in distributed teams, or have working days that differ from those of other employees for some reason. With Workload schemes you can account for team diversity and add these automated planning features to your toolkit.
- Managing workload and holiday schemes is done by clicking the cog wheel in the top right corner and selecting Add-ons from the drop-down menu.
- Workload and Holiday schemes are managed under the Tempo section on Administration page.
- New uses are automatically added to the Default Workload Scheme
- To the right of the workload schemes we see the number of team members assigned to each scheme. To move members between schemes, we click Members.
- From there we can see the full list of members within the selected workload scheme and move team members between schemes using a drop-down list.
- Editing a workload scheme, is done by clicking the Edit button. There you can change the workload for each day as well as changing the name and description of the workload scheme.
- Creating a new workload scheme is done by clicking the Add Scheme button. There you can configure a new workload scheme by setting workdays and non-working days and the workload per each day.
Holiday Schemes
The holiday schemes account for national holidays, religious holidays and other significant dates that differ from culture-to-culture. You can create a holiday scheme and add team members that share those holidays to the scheme.
- Managing workload and holiday schemes is done by clicking the cog wheel in the top right corner and selecting Add-ons from the drop-down menu.
- Workload and Holiday schemes are managed under the Tempo section on Administration page.
- New users are automatically added to the Default Holiday Scheme.
- In the overview for holiday schemes, schemes can be added or removed with ease.
- In the top lane there are empty fields where new holiday schemes can be created.
- By clicking the Configure button on the right of each scheme we can explore it in more detail, configure settings, and create new holidays.
- For each holiday we can configure the name of the holiday, the description detailing the type of holiday in question, the duration of the holiday, and the date.
- The holidays within a holiday scheme are divided into Fixed (holidays that occur on the same day every year) and Floating (holidays that do not occur on the same day every year).
- By clicking View Members we can see all the team members currently assigned to the scheme.
- By clicking Move on the right of each team member within a given scheme, we can move team members to a new scheme.
Workload and Holiday schemes are reflected in the planning for team members and individual workload and holiday schemes may be modified at any time. On the Team Timeline, non-working days are depicted in gray and holidays are depicted in pink. These days are factored into the planning when dragging plan items onto the timeline.
With Tempo, being distributed and being agile no longer need to be at odds.
