Today is a special day for us at Tempo, because we’re releasing Tempo Planner version 1.3 for JIRA and JIRA Agile. Wrapped in a simplified, intuitive user interface, this Tempo Planner release introduces brand new features, including sprint capacity and utilization planning, visibility of sprint backlogs, team member workload schemes, an improved team timeline, the ability to plan time directly on projects, and additional improvements and fixes.

Here are some of the highlights of this release:

Sprint Capacity and Utilization Planning

We’ve all been there:  our sprint is completed, and we're starting work on the next one, yet not all of the work from the previous sprint was fully finished; it is still assigned to a part of the team. Maybe some of these team members are on vacation, and others are leaving, or have been assigned to work on other projects. The team consists of specialists who need to take on particular tasks. As a result, it is difficult for the Scrum Master to determine how much of the team is ready to commit to a particular project.

With this version of Tempo Planner, we have tackled these problems head-on, introducing a detailed view that empowers Scrum Masters to take a peek into upcoming sprints, aligning their backlogs with each team member's capacity and speciality.

See this in action and try it today.

Visualize Your Sprint Backlogs

High-level sprint planning for your team is now possible with Tempo Planner 1.3. You can take a peek inside upcoming sprints, and plan tasks for each team member, taking into account their overall availability and commitments over finite a period of time.

We've made this process painless and easy with Tempo Planner's seamless integration with JIRA and JIRA Agile.

More on how to access and use the new Sprint Backlog feature can be found here.

Manage Your Team Member Workload Schemes

With Tempo Planner’s Tempo Teams features, team leaders can easily configure team and team member workload schemes, including working days and holidays. For distributed teams and part-time employees, this is essential for accurately calculating the correct capacity of each team member.tempo-teams-working-days-overviewTeam leaders can now easily move team members between different Workload and Holiday Schemes, without having to go into Tempo’s Administrative section. The Working Days screen lists the members of the team and the Workload and Holiday Schemes to which they are currently assigned. By clicking on a particular scheme next to a team member in the table, you can easily start editing edit or assign the schemes that he or she should be in.

An Improved Team Timeline for Easy, Visual Planning

We're listening a lot to customer feedback, and are aggressively responding with improved features of Planner's Team Timeline, including:

  1. A better visualization of team member over-allocation, which provides a visual aid to signal if a particular team member has been over-allocated to multiple teams.
  2. Better use of the color palette provided in the Atlassian Design Guidelines. We have improved the color presentation of the Planner Timeline to make it easier for users to understand the various types of team member commitments:
    1. Blue - High-level plan item for a team or member has a blue color.
    2. Green - Issue-level plan item for a team or member has a green color.
    3. Partially transparent - Plan items for a team are shown partially transparent for each team member. This is to help users distinguish between 1) planned activities that a team member is participating in along with the entire team (e.g. sprint), and 2) planned activities for a single team member.

Plan Time Directly on Projects

Functional teams often work on a large array of projects at the same time, which makes effective planning crucial. We’ve made it easy to plan directly on any project at any given time.

Tempo Planner’s Plan Time dialog is now available on the Team Timeline for quick entries, so you can focus your efforts on other important tasks.

We’re always striving to improve Tempo Planner with each release. Please keep your feedback coming so we can make it even better!
